Economy Terror Blows by Field to Win Third ‘Crown’ Event

TORONTO, ON— Economy Terror won the Breeders Crown Two-Year-Old Filly Trot in 1:51, a track and stakes record, paying $3.50 to win. Handsoffmycookie finished second, Pirouette Hanover finished third, Shelliscape finished fourth and Apogee Hanover finished fifth.

Podges Lady, Pirouette Hanover, Big Mcdeal and Marty Party all left the gate with speed. Podges Lady cleared heading to the quarter. Big Mcdeal sat in second and Pirouette Hanover sat in third. Podges Lady took them by the quarter in :26.2.

Big Mcdeal came first over at the three-eighths and cleared the lead approaching the half. Podges Lady was in the pocket second and Pirouette Hanover came first over from third. Pirouette Hanover took the lead from Big Mcdeal at the half in :55 (:28.3).

Pirouette Hanover and Big Mcdeal dueled around the far turn, with Podges Lady in third and Marty Party was second over in fourth. Pirouette Hanover lead the field by three-quarters in 1:22.3 (:27.3).

Pirouette Hanover was starting to pass Big Mcdeal in the stretch. Handsoffmycookie and Economy Terror came from the back of the field and passed Pirouette Hanover, Big Mcdeal and Shelliscape. Economy Terror had a little more than Handsoffmycookie to win. Pirouette Hanover finished third, Shelliscape finished fourth and Apogee Hanover was fifth.

Economy Terror is a two-year-old filly by Western Terror out of the mare Mattatonic by Matts Scooter. She is bred by Vae LLC. She is owned by Chuck Pompey, Howard Taylor and Edwin Gold, trained by Christopher Oakes and Brian Sears was in the sulky to a 1:51 stake and track record performance.

“I’ve liked her from day one; she is a great horse. She’s getting bigger and stronger, nothing like a sharp filly when they’re on their game,” driver Brian Sears said.

“She is a real handful [around the barn]. We’ve been patient with her,” trainer Chris Oakes said.
