Betterthancheddar Closes Out Night of ‘Crown’ Eliminations

TORONTO, ON— Betterthancheddar passed Hugadragon to win the final Breeders Crown elimination of the night. Hugadragon was second, Big Bad John was third, Up The Credit was fourth and Fashion Delight was fifth.

Betterthancheddar left for the lead, with Hugadragon sitting in second and Prodigal Seelster was in third. Betterthancheddar took them by the quarter in :26.4.

Hugadragon came first over and cleared the lead down the backstetch. Fantaddy went on a break in the back of the field. Approaching the half, Wink N Atcha came first over, giving cover to Fashion Delight and Big Bad John. Hugadragon took them by the half in :55.2 (:28.3).

Around the far turn, Wink N Atcha went on a break, scrambling the field behind him. Hugadragon passed three-quarters in 1:22.1 (:26.4). Betterthancheddar circled to the outside in the stretch and took the lead at the eighth pole. Up The Credit was riding the pylons and Big Bad John had late rally. Betterthancheddar had the lead and went on to win in 1:49.1, a lifetime mark. Hugadragon finishing second, Big Bad John was third, Up The Credit was fourth and Fashion Delight was fifth.

Betterthancheddar is by Bettor’s Delight out of the mare Lady Ashleen Ann by Camtastic. He has earned $322,438 in his lifetime. He is owned by Steve Calhoun and West Wins Stable. He is bred by Winbak Farm. He is trained by Casie Coleman and George Brennan was in the bike.

“I had to do it [give him time off], after the Meadowlands Pace. I don’t know what happened,” trainer Casie Coleman said. “His attitutdes back, he’s sound and healthy. The less work you give him the better he does. So that’s our plan for this week” Casie Coleman added.
