Closing Night Opens Competition

On Saturday, August 21, the Meadowlands Racetrack featured the Sweetheart, Woodrow Wilson, Golden Girls and William Haughton Memorial finals on the Meadowlands final race day of 2011.

Pirouette Hanover (Western Ideal) was victorious in the $363,900 Sweetheart final by a head, tarnishing Handsoffmycookie’s (Art Major) undefeated record. Podges Lady (The Panderosa) was third and Bettor B Lucky (Bettor’s Delight) finished fourth.

Major Look (Art Major), “Pirouette” and Podges Lady all left the gate with speed heading to the clubhouse turn. “Look” cleared the lead by the quarter in :27.1. “Podges” applied pressure down the backstretch and Pirouette was buried at the rail.

At the half Pirouette successfully took the lead from Podges. Look was in third and “Cookie” came first over. They paced the half in :55.2 (:28.1). Around the far turn, Pirouette and Cookie were matching strides. Podges was second over in third.

Pirouette and Cookie dueled by three-quarters in 1:23.3 (:28.1). The two were at each-other’s throats coming to the wire. Pirouette found a bit more to get her head in front. Cookie finished second, Podges was third and Bettor B Lucky passed a tiring Major Look to finish fourth.

Yummy Sushi (Rocknroll Hanover) broke at the first turn, finishing tenth. Ramalama (Bettor’s Delight), Rockin Belle (Rocknroll Hanover) and Sangaal (Real Desire) finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.

Major Bombay (Art Major) made a big move in the stretch to take the $317,800 Woodrow Wilson final. Simply Business (Rocknroll Hanover) finished second, Mybrothergeorge was third and Mel Mara finished fourth.

“Bombay,” “George,” A Rocknroll Dance (Rocknroll Hanover) and “Simply” all left the gate fast. George took the lead at the quarter in :27.1. Simply sat in second and Bombay was in third. George was not pressured by the half in :56.1 (:29).

Approaching the far turn, Simply was in second and Bombay was in third. Wrubellious (Real Artist) came first over in sixth, giving cover to Allstar Legend (Four Starzzz Shark). “Mara” was flushed out by Wrubellious and challenged George for the lead, while “Allstar” was gapping cover.

George and Mara were head to head by three-quarters in 1:24.2 (:28.1). Mara was rough gaited and George was in front. Bombay was looking for room and Allstar started closing. Simply was buried in third. Bombay drifted four wide from the rail and started storming home. He passed George, Mara and Simply to win the Woodrow Wilson in 1:51.3. Simply Business finished second, Mybrothergeorge was third and Mel Mara finished fourth.

Allstar Legend finished fifth, Mortal Zin (Rocknroll Hanover) was sixth, Wrubellious finished seventh and A Rocknroll Dance finished eighth.

Dreamfair Eternal (Camluck) took the $235,750 Golden Girls final in 1:50. Anndrovette (Riverboat King) finished second, Chancey Lady (Camluck) was third and Shacked Up (Western Terror) finished fourth.

Showherthemoney (Cam’s Card Shark), Rock N Soul (Rocknroll Hanover), Cannae Cammie (Cam’s Card Shark) and Ticket To Rock (Rocknroll Hanover) all showed speed heading to the first turn.

“Money” and Anndrovette dueled to the quarter in :27. Anndrovette cleared the lead heading down the backstretch, Money sat back in second and “Soul” was in third. Anndrovette had the lead at the half in 54.3 (:27.3). Money was in second and Soul sat in third.

Laughandbehappy (Badlands Hanover) was progressing well first over approaching the far turn. “Eternal” followed second over. “Lady” and “Shacked” were following the two wide flow. Anndrovette was not challenged around the far turn. “Happy” was coming closer on the outside. Money was in second and Soul was in third.

Anndrovette was in front by three-quarters in 1:22.3 (:28). Money was buried at the rail in second. Happy was first over in third. Eternal came three wide in fifth. Soul was buried in fourth.

Anndrovette and Eternal dueled at the top of the stretch. Happy started to fade and Chancey Lady was following Eternal. Hula’s Z Tam (Bettor’s Delight) made a huge move up the inside. Eternal was home free at the 1/16, Anndrovette was in second and Chancey Lady was in third. Shacked Up beat Ticket To Rock for the fourth spot.

Ticket To Rock, Hula’s Z Tam, Laughandbehappy, Cannae Cammie, Showherthemoney and Rock N Soul finished fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth respectively.  

Alexie Mattosie (No Pan Intended) won the $523,000 William Haughton Memorial in 1:48.1. Foiled Again (Dragon Again) finished second, Won The West (Western Hanover) was third and Giddy Up Lucky (Camluck) was fourth.

Hypnotic Blue Chip (Art Major), “Alexie,” Aracache Hanover (Dragon Again) and “Lucky” all left for the lead. “Aracache” and “Hypnotic” dueled for the lead around the first turn. Alexie moved into third. By the quarter and Aracache took the lead in :26.3. Hypnotic gave way into second and Alexie was in third.

Alexie came first over at the three-eighths. Aracache was in front, with Hypnotic in second. Alexie was first over in third. We Will See (Western Hanover) came second over at the half. Aracache paced the half in :53 (:26.2). Alexie was second on the outside and Hypnotic was boxed in third. “See” was second over in fourth and “Foiled” came third over in fifth. “West” followed Foiled in sixth. Lucky was gapping at the inside.

Approaching three-quarters, Aracache and Alexie were dueling with Hypnotic at the rail in third. See came three-wide. Again and West followed See at three-quarters in 1:20.1 (:27.1).

Aracache had a ¼ length lead over Alexie. See was three wide in third. Hypnotic was buried at the inside. Aracache gave way to the stampede coming by him. Alexie hit the wire in time to win. Foiled Again got up to finish second and Won The West came with him to finish third.

We Will See, Aracache Hanover, One More Laugh (Mcardle), Hypnotic Blue Chip, Vintage Master (Western Ideal) and Ideal Matters (Western Ideal) finished fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth, respectively.
