TRI’s Picks January 5 Meadowlands

Meadowlands Racetrack Pick 4, Races 7-10, Saturday, January 5, 2013

Last night, we had two of four in the Pick 4 and one of the winners was a bet to win, Heres My Ticket returned $30.80 to win. Our other winner, Hot List, was under 4-1, so she was not a bet. If you bet with us all year so far, you would be down $34.80. Our luck will turn around tonight as we have many value plays on our ticket. Good luck!

$2 Play: 2,7/1,4/4/4,11 = $16

Analysis:

Race 7- (2) Sir Ziggy’s Z Tam raced well in his first start off of a short layoff. He closed from far off the pace through fast fractions to finish third with a final quarter of :27.4. He should be closer to the pace this week and also improve in his second start off a short layoff. (7) Musselsfrmbrussels had a horrible trip last week, yet still raced fantastic. He got away in the back of the field and was locked at the pylons for the entire mile, but he squeezed through rivals up the inside to finish fifth. He won’t be stuck in a bind like that again this week, but may leave for the lead or try and sit back and find cover to ride on until it’s time to use his late kick into the stretch.

Race 8-
(1) Saywhatuneedtosay also got a bad trip being locked at the pylons last week. He tried his best to keep up with the leader Mystic Desire, but had shaken loose too late and the leader had drawn away from the field. This horse can close fast when needed and should not get a trip like he did last week, but perhaps a good second or third over mile is what I expect from him. (4) Esprit De Kayjay A is the likely favorite in this event. He was caught wide for the entire mile and fought on to win against $25,000 Claimers. He won’t get a trip like that this week, but he does step up and may take the lead or try to get a pocket trip to emerge victorious again.

Race 9-
(4) Mighty Young Joe made a hell of a strong effort to close last week against fast fractions. This effort could have also been affected due to it being his first start on lasix. He is now second time lasix this week and I expect a similar effort to last week’s, but he will be closer to the pace and will have an easier time closing.

Race 10-
(4) Shaws Creek Buff paced a first over mile last week and he had to settle for second. He goes against a 12-horse field this week, so I expect him to try and get away fast and perhaps take the lead. If he takes the lead by the quarter, challengers will likely pass him and he will be shuffled to second or third, a perfect spot to turn into the stretch and begin the pursuit to the winners circle. I don’t think he will be much of a long shot in this event, but he will be the horse that if needed, will cap this Pick 4 with a favorite. (11) Cruising Yankee looked like a menace on paper. In his last three starts, he raced from post 8 at Harrah’s Philadelphia and in one effort he won. What also makes him a threat is that he is first time lasix tonight. He will have to maneuver past the first tier to get a good spot and perhaps the horse in front of him, Fancy Footwork, will leave for the lead and give Kakaley a chance to get a spot in the middle of the pack. He is the bomber on this ticket that will make us the only winners.
