Drop The Ball Holds Off Pressure to Win Matron

DOVER, DE—Drop The Ball won the $116,000 three-year-old filly pace Matron in 1:51.2 at Dover Downs on Sunday, November 13. Strike An Attitude finished second, Myluvmylife was third and Foxy Lady finished fourth.

Foxy Lady, Drop The Ball and Strike An Attitude all left the gate with speed heading into the first turn. Foxy Lady cleared the lead, with Strike An Attitude settling in second and Drop The Ball first over in third. Foxy Lady took them by the quarter in :26.3.

Drop The Ball cleared the lead heading down the stretch and Foxy Lady pulled back into second. There was no change from there at the half in :55.4 (:29.1).

Myluvmylife tipped to the outside and was progressing first over heading to the backstretch. Myluvmylife was on Drop The Ball’s wheel heading to three-quarters. Strike An Attitude came second over at three-quarters in 1:23.1 (:27.2).

Drop The Ball lead the way into the stretch. Strike An Attitude came off cover three wide and was closing hard. Myluvmylife was trying to dig in and Foxy Lady had no rally. Drop The Ball had enough to hold off Strike An Attitude to win. Myluvmylife was third and Foxy Lady finished fourth.

Drop The Ball is a three-year-old filly by Western Terror out of the mare Mattcheck Girl by Matt’s Scooter. She has earned $533,643 this year. She is owned by Let It Ride Stables, Mr Parham and Robert Cooper Stables. She is trained by Jeffrey Webster and Yannick Gingras was in the bike to win in 1:51.2.
