Titanic clashes

Titan Cup

The Titan Cup was inaugurated to the Meadowlands in 1979, where it was ran for a purse of $35,000. The winner was Keystone Pioneer, driven by the late William Haughton. We know the Titan Cup today as a test for the free-for-all trotters that goes for $200,000-plus.

The Titan Cup was first run for $202,500 back in 2000 when Raffaello Ambrosio won in 1:53.1. The fastest time in the Titan Cup was 1:51.2, set by Sand Vic in 2006. Some of those names have returned from the 2010 edition, including Corleone Kosmos, Buck I St Pat, Lucky Jim and Arch Madness.

Titan Cup prep winner Arch Madness was able to rebound after his failed attempt in the $772,485 Elitloppet at Solvalla Racecourse. Out of his seven starts this year, he has visited the winner’s circle six times and banked $361,545. Arch Madness is undefeated in America this year as well. He participated in the Titan Cup for three consecutive years and has not been victorious. The closest he came was in 2008 where he finished second to Corleone Kosmos.

The 2008 champion Corleone Kosmos will have a new driver again since 2008. “Corleone” was driven by Eric Goodell in 2008 and John Campbell in 2009 and 2010. David Miller will pick up the reigns for the 2011 edition, with a good shot as well. Last year, Corleone was known to break, but this year he has learned to control it and will have a say in this competition on Saturday. Corleone is also a well known face; he has competed in the Titan Cup for the last five years and was only victorious once.

The 2009 winner and Dan Patch award winner Lucky Jim rebounded this season in a $32,000 Invitational, winning a 1:52.3 mile at the Meadowlands, while also defeating Four Starz Speed, who raced in the 2009 edition. Lucky Jim raced four times this season and won once. In his other three starts he made bad breaks.
The 2011 Titan Cup is filled with top trotters, who are all battling to earn divisional honors, as they did in 1980, 1984, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2009 and 2010.

The hardest part for bettors of the Titan Cup is to find an overlay. It looks as if Arch Madness will be the heavy favorite but the horses that are showing chances of racing better here are Corleone Kosmos and Neighsay Hanover.

Neighsay Hanover stepped up to the free-for-all ranks last year in the Breeders Crown, where he finished a gallant third in the Breeders Crown open trot last year. He has recently raced in the Maxie Lee, where he was off the board. He also raced in the Arthur Cutler and finished third. He is improving well against older horses, along with Coreleone Kosmos. He has done well in his last four starts, finishing first once and third three times. As long as he stays flat, he will finish on the board.

Historics

This year, a very disappointing field of three is entered in a non-wagering Jersey Cup. But the Ladyship attracted 10 fabulous fillies.

In the Ladyship, it is a tough call on who the public choice will be, but it may be Shabalabadingdong. Seeing that, Honky Tonk Woman is the horse to watch. You here this many times, but she is an improving horse and is capable of showing her talent in here. Also watch Rocklamation.

Ben Franklin

In the $500,000 Ben Franklin final, there is no clear favorite, which is why Ideal Matters is the horse to watch. He did well in his elim and is looking good coming to the final. Also watch Aracache Hanover.
